Joining us will be an illustrious panel of industry leaders who will offer their candid insights into the Chicago fashion scene as they relate to design, production, modeling, finance, start-ups and the growing pains associated with starting and developing fashion brand. We will also discuss Chicago’s role and future in the fashion market, developing trends and the growth of the fashion industry in Chicago and beyond. Moderator Bios

  1. Patrick McKeyhas a diverse practice that includes complex commercial and intellectual property litigation, international business disputes, licensing, anti-counterfeiting actions and counseling, as well as advising companies, from start-ups to multinational entities, on business, litigation, regulatory and strategic issues affecting their businesses.  Mr. McKey has spoken on a number of subjects relating to fashion law at conferences in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, as well as on the internet.

Maria Z. Vathis handles complex business litigation and class actions at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, LLP.  She also advises corporate clients on statutory regulations and compliance, including the GDPR and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.  She represents retail clients in the United States and Europe.  She is a frequent speaker at fashion law conferences in Chicago, New York and Paris, France.  As of October 1, 2018, Maria will be the national President of the Federal Bar Association.

Panelists:

Ambar Campos received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago in June, 2010.  While in school she always held between 2 and 3 jobs trying to gain as much experience possible.  This included a retail position at Aldo, teaching sewing classes for various organizations on the weekends, and being a library assistant at the Illinois Institute of Art.

She originally came to AIBI for a temporary data entry position in 2007 and stayed on as a permanent employee.  Her understanding of garment construction, sewing machinery and CAD coupled with her administrative, computer and graphic design skills made her a perfect fit for the AIBI team.

Ambar has held many positions within the organization: Intern, Receptionist, Administrative Assistant, Project Manager, Assistant Director, and as of February 28, 2016 Co-Executive Director. Currently she is in charge of planning, writing and executing AIBI grants. She also oversees our manufacturing center, technological advances, workshops, specialized training and educational programs.

Robert Hoffmann is President and CEO of Shiraleah, LLC.  Shiraleah is a Chicago-based wholesaler of trend-driven home and fashion accessories to more than 4500 retailers around the world.  Shiraleah products can be seen at many leading retailers including Nordstrom’s, Anthropologie, Stitch Fix, Macy’s, Rue La La/Gilt, Von Maur, Dia, Francesca’s, TJX, Homegoods and Hallmark corporate.

Shiraleah has an extensive team of designers developing the latest trends out of their Hong Kong design office.  They work closely with more than 100 factories in 8 countries to bring the unique talents and heritage of artisans from different countries to the mainstream.  Based out of Chicago, Shiraleah has more than 2,000 in line products in addition to working closely with their clients in the development of private label goods.

Prior to acquiring Shiraleah at the age of 29, he worked in management consulting for 7 years, has an MBA from the University of Chicago with a dual degree in Finance and Management and a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Michigan.  He currently lives in Wilmette, IL with his wife, 2 sons and dog.
