Kwame Amoaku, Director of the Chicago Film Office, and Louis Ferrara, Deputy Director of the Illinois Film Office, discuss the state of the industry in Illinois.
The Chicago Film Office, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, leads the city’s effort to attract and enhance the production of feature films, television series, commercials, documentaries and all forms of local screen entertainment. For filmmakers, it is a one-stop liaison for all City of Chicago production needs including permits, city services, and logistical support.
The Illinois Film Office is the gateway to government for production, and this program will provide the information you need to navigate the Illinois Film Production Tax Credit Program. Kwame Amoaku brings 25 years of experience in the film industry as an executive producer, director, assistant director, production manager, location manager, actor and writer. Prior to joining the Chicago Film Office, Amoaku was location manager for the NBC series, “Chicago Fire” (since 2014) and for the Netflix movie based on Chicago’s hip-hop scene, “Beats” (2019). His acting credits include “Chicago Fire,” “ER” and “Prison Break.” He attended Southern Illinois University.
Louis Ferrara currently serves as Deputy Director of the Illinois Film Office, where he supervises collaboration with stakeholders, studio and network executives, producers, financiers, talent and trade unions on project physical production, infrastructure and tax incentive outreach, and initial location services/site scouting. Ferrara also supervises business/creative development and strategic partnerships in the filming production industry to generate economic opportunities for vendors and crew in film, television, streaming, digital content and commercial advertising.
