We will also discuss Chicago’s role and future in the fashion market, developing trends and the growth of the fashion industry in Chicago and beyond. Our panelists with give their experience based-opinions on what to expect in look for in the future.

Moderator Bios

S. Patrick McKey has a diverse practice that includes complex commercial and intellectual property litigation, international business disputes, licensing, anti-counterfeiting actions and counseling, as well as advising companies, from start-ups to multinational entities, on business, litigation, regulatory and strategic issues affecting their businesses. Mr. McKey has spoken on a number of subjects relating to fashion law at conferences in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, as well as on the internet.

Maria Z. Vathis handles complex business litigation and class actions at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, LLP. She also advises corporate clients on statutory regulations and compliance, including the GDPR and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. She represents retail clients in the United States and Europe. She is a frequent speaker at fashion law conferences in Chicago, New York and Paris, France. As of October 1, 2018, Maria will be the national President of the Federal Bar Association.


Panelist Bios

The son of a cobbler, Oak Street Bootmakers founder and designer George Vlagos apprenticed at his father’s shop where he learned the craft of shoemaking from an early age. Today, George seeks to preserve the heritage of fine shoemaking through thoughtfully designed and attentively crafted shoes.

Drew Allison has been on the retail side of menswear since 2008, and joined the Independence team in January of 2017. Drew focuses on well made, relatable staples that are emphasized by stand out seasonal pieces.

Tony Long – Founder and CEO Of FashionBar LLC is a Chicago resident focused on a mission to help identify Chicago as a fashion destination. Tony acquired his Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Management with a Certificate in Entrepreneurship Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Tony worked for various fortune 100 companies such as Federal-Mogul Corporation (Formerly known as FelPro Corporation), Avery Dennison, Alcan Packaging, WW Grainger etc. In his 20yrs of corporate experience in Marketing, Management, Manufacturing and Distribution, he's accomplished the opening of a manufacturing facility in Orange, France for Nestle Corporation during his employment at Alcan Packaging. He's implemented SAP technologies at WW Grainger and project managed the execution of Healthcare Reform mandates and regulations at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois which was set forth by Obamacare and the US Federal Government.

After achieving a list of comprehensive corporate achievements, Tony shifted his focus to his true dedication onto Fashion business where he's been able to launch FashionBar (LLC) Chicago. This vision to combine this corporate experience coupled with his flair for fashion has strengthened his presence within the Chicago fashion industry. FashionBar Chicago continues to grow as a central source for business and consulting to nationalize Chicago as a fashion capital bridging LA to New York City!
